600MB/s, so you need at least a PCIe 2.0 2x slot (a 1x slot is 500MB/s at 2.0) to use all that.

DuckieHo: PCIe can be used for hotplugging/hotswapping, it depends on the implementation, while our GPUs, etc can't, the ports that are essentially 1x slots on laptops can, same with the laptop version of PCI.

I am not a fanboy, I have a Core 2 Duo E8300 and Pentium Dual Core E2180 as well as the CPU in my sig rig, I also have multiple nVidia cards (6800GS, 9400GT, 9600GT) as well as two ATI. (HD4890 + HD2400Pro)
Using my backup rig for nostalgia factor.

Opps... you're right. Pin 1A is for Hot Plug Detect.

Fine... PCIe uses more power than USB.

I like eSATA.
The only issue I have with eSATA is that's it's storage only. USB can not only be used for storage, but pretty well every other peripheral you can think of. External drives won't even come close to using 6 Gb/s for some time anyway. I think 5 will do just fine.

SATA 3.0 is 6 gbps, which will beat USB 3.0.

Wait for eSATA at 6gbps.

Readyboost upgrade anyone? USB 3.0 + 8-16GB Flash drive = no more slow hard drive cache. It might even be fast enough to use USB 3.0 flash drives as graphics memory for notebooks with integrated graphics. Could free up lots of system RAM that way.

What he meant was the page file/virtual memory that's what you would move to gain performance. But... Samsungs 32gb single stick of ram and the whole most system have 4+ gigs now means that most every thing is run from ram no more cache in HDD.
