WD already released a 2TB drive with 64MB cache...a green, RE version that is.

http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=610

But this is intriguing.

Because its external? and USB cables are able to be longer than eSATA cables if we are talking about using external ports. On top of that, USB ports are just more widely available than eSATA.

I don't know about him, that's why I would want one. If he's talking about using an external drive the difference in performance between SATA and USB probably isn't that important for what they are usually used for.

Yea just because it can carry a higher speed doesnt mean it will be faster. Sata will still have less latency increasing usability.

You could RAID5 three 1TB drives for less, or four drives in RAID 1+0 for a bit more with the added redundancy, same capacity, and faster speeds.

Why care if 64 or 32mb cache gives you barley a performance boost? If it gives you any boost and it doesnt effect the price why argue? Im sure in some situation more cache helps, I know Id appreciate the bigger cache when moving around big files.

Seriously... it's just a slow and cheap DRAM chip on the logic board...
