Thanks OpTicaL, I will have to give that a go.. Maybe I can hook the Cars alternator to it and use the cut off circuit to engage only when the hdd is at idle..

BTW isn't Sata 3 on the horizon.

I definitely saw a big difference going from a 16mb drive to a 32mb drive. Of course I'm sure someone will criticize me with nonsense, but my experience is something that no one can recreate, so bleh. Also the difference going from SATA150 to SATA3GB/s was a nice leap.

Sigh, I'm sure you did notice a difference.....I'm sure your new 32mb drive was faster than your 16mb one. Was the difference due to cache size? No

Also SATA150 to SATAII only matters if you can use that bandwidth, if your hdd is fast enough to saturate SATA150 then you'll notice a difference. Not sure how that is relevant to the implications of cache size........
