When does cache make a noticeable difference in real world performance? Everything I've read says that it really doesn't have an impact.

I remember reading somewhere that cache sizes over 16mb are generally of little to no benefit

I recall reading in an article that Western Digital said that adding more cache to their drives did not increase performance when going from 16MB to 32MB in the 1TB drives. However, due to the market trend of other companies having 32MB cache, they followed suit. They did not want people to view their drives as inferior because they had less cache than the others. They probly are thinking people will require double the cache in a drive if it has double the space to view it as a top performer.
