Default [Hardware Canucks] Gigabyte P55/X58A/EP45-UD5 Revealed!

Quote:
Quote:

During our time in Taiwan for the GIGABYTE Open Overclocking Championship 2009, we had the opportunity to take a peek at GIGABYTE's upcoming motherboard lineup, as well as examine the company's new software and technological innovations. In total, GIGABYTE were showing off 28 models, a significant number of which were current models that have been updated or refreshed with new features. This shows that the company is focused on continually developing and improving the base features list of all its motherboards. However, there were obviously some sweet new models as well.

EP55-UD3P

EP45-UD3P Rev 2.0

EP45-UD5 - 24 Phase!

Basically, new X58A boards which are newer revisions and updated P45

Default PCI-E x4 slot?

What is that slot between the power connector and the DIMM slots? Looks like PCI-E x4 to me, but that's a rather odd placement of one.

^no it's a slot for an upcoming intel SSD/turbo boost module or something... it's been noted on all previously shown P55/P57's.

I like the P55-UD5 board, looks pretty nice, and its the first P55 I've seen that features 6 RAM slots.

Actually, after some further research i remembered the acronym - ONFI (Open NAND Flash Interface) which basically allows you to slot in a small, very fast SSD that you can load your OS onto. It's more of an extended version of Vista Readyboost where instead of having 5MB/s flash drives, you have 200MB/s SSD's. IIRC it's only available on the P57 boards, not the P55's, but that may well change.

Y'know i think i've had this discussion before, probably on a previous P55 review but that's really quite interesting. Instead of the slots being three colours (one for each channel), they actually have four blue slots and two white. This makes it appear to be quad-channel, since all four slots are the same colour. I don't quite understand why they did that, though, since none of the Lynnfields will have quad-channel IMC's.

To answer most of your questions: (1) a fridge cannot cool a PC (2) 64-bit OS for over 3.4GB (3) If a PCIe card fits, it should work (4) Resolution, not screen size (5) If you have a question, it is not news (6) Report, not respond to Spam (7) Single-Rail/Non-Modular PSUs are not always better than Multi-Rail/Modular
