It's more memory with higher core clock but same memory clock. A stock 4890 is 850/1050 and this is 870/1050.

Either way this would probably be best for crossfire. Oh, and GDDR5 does not need more than 256-bit at it's effective rate. My 4870 at 900MHz has 115 GB/s which is 40GB/s more then GDDR4 at 1372MHz.

It has been explained countless time. Total bandwidth is what counts. There are two ways of achieving high memory bandwidth, wide bus or high memory frequency. Increasing memory frequencies is far cheaper (and easier) than designing a wider bus, so what gets implemented depends on the card's architecture (and its target production cost).

I think 1.5gb of memory would have made more sense. I don't think even an HD 4890 can take advantage of all that, even crossfired at 1ghz and with loads of AA.

Hasn't their been a 2gb HD 4870 yet? How did that perform?

EDIT:
Nvm, found some http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews....d=737&pageid=5

I don't think this extra memory will do much

Yes, there is a 4870 Vapor-X 2gb card. Here's a review of it.

Crossfire: You will have 2gb between the 2 cards

i think that alone justifies the memory boost

So...what would happen with two of these crossfired in a 32bit OS? Would the system memory be un-usable?

Hi. Explain why it seems some people seem to assume that others do no possess the same knowledge as they and thus act superior in error?

In defense of 003, I think he/she was stating that the manufacturers should know the relationship between the two. No need to flame.

Of course frequency increases bandwidth. But this card also has a poor memory overclock so my point still stands
