I bet Intel would be the first to snatch them, but they probably will not.

They are too far along with their own aspirations.

I expect anything at this point.

great tech, but ahead of it's time. I would like to see them thrive and perfect ray tracing, it'll be one of the best improvements in gaming or graphics design ever made. Just think, we are one step away to making actual photo-realistic pictures or environments from scratch!

When we have real-time ray tracing in games we'll essentially have graphics like you see in CG movies, like the ones made by Pixar. Of course, that doesn't mean everything will be setup to the same quality as a movie like Pixar makes, rendering will just happen in a similar way.

If I had to guess at a timeframe for real-time, high-quality, ray tracing in games, I'd give it at least 10 years.

Interesting.

I'll wait for nVidia to buy the company and integrate it into a future GeForce card, as they did with PhysX.

They would have to just build their cards around the Ray tracer instead of incorporating it like PhysX. It would be more like when they bought 3dfx.

I doubt this will happen until RT has ripened enough to be commercially used in games.
