That's the most cold-hearted and inconsiderate thing I've seen on the forums in a long time. Let see if you can "live with a few more traffic deaths" per year if one of them happens to be someone you care about. And you and your family/friends can drive as responsibly as you want, but all it takes is a irresponsible driver for an accident to happen.

We make that choice every day. Why don't we live under martial law? There would be many less murders if we had soldiers everywhere, but we would also be giving up freedoms. Lets have a curfew too, say 10pm...for everyone. No drunk drivers at night. Also, lets have checkpoints every mile or so, nobody will have their seat belt off or be drunk driving because they KNOW they will be caught.

Point is there is a limit to how "safe" you can make things. Somewhere you start loosing too many liberties.

In my opinion, all these laws are bull****. The Government is poor and they're just making all these laws to get money.

So, you believe convenience and freedom are the same thing? Not allowing you to manually access your GPS is now a serious infringement on your freedom (and we're not even talking about a law prohibiting GPS altogether, it's just a certain type of GPS (manually operated) during a certain time (while you're driving)) and it's worthwhile to have a few extra deaths just so you can have the convenience?

I don't understand why everyone is flipping out; this is not new at all.

Most GPS units built into cars, from the ones I've used and seen, don't let you press ANY buttons at all while moving above 5MPH or so. I know my parents get really annoyed at the damn unit in our car because we have to pull over to change it. But I've seen similar in all of my relatives and stuff.
I guess things like TomTom lets you? I haven't seen those before to know.

The problem with this topic is who is to say they dont have someone else in the vehilce to operate or change routes. im going to get flamed but I cant wait til they change the age to drive to 18 in all the states.

on a side note, some colleges prohibit students to have vehicles, I always thought that was BS

I suppose so but then again, how do you possibly monitor that?

I personally hate cops. In the past weak alone ive seen a cop turn on his lights to run a red light, i know this because i saw him waiting behind people at the next left turn signal. I also saw a cop just pull out infront of me on the high way with no flashers and proceed to top probably about 100MPH in a 65mph zone. I wish you could get cops in trouble for breaking laws themselves...

On topic: I completely disagree with banning gps, even though mine does speak aloud.

The worst part is that they honestly believe they're still good drivers and are unaffected by the distractions.

That being said, the rule shouldn't outlaw GPS, but instead put more restrictions on the implementation (ie. screens have to be directly in front of the driver, disable buttons while in motion, mandatory voice instructions instead of on-screen text, etc)
I think they're standard now. Or Maybe some at least. My Pioneer N3(I assume other models of theirs have it too) has that function to not search a destination while driving and have to be completely stopped to do so, even with trying to swap out a dvd, you cant. Honestly, it's a really a good thing to take that into effect. Off the GPS thing a bit, but when I'm driving(Mornings especially) there's ALWAYS someone doing something. More than half are women putting on makeup. Too bad they or anyone who's not paying attention get caught often.

lol, I've seen firetrucks and ambulances do the same and 5 seconds later pull into a fast food joint and chill.
