Unless you bought it from the apple store they probably did not make that much profit off of it. Most likely a retail store bought it for like $300 and sold it for $400.

This stuff is bogus. I know electronics cost less and it suprised me that the Xbox 360 costs so much to make even though the crappy harware in it.

I wouldn't call it crappy, as the GPU inside of it is roughly equivalent to a 7950GT. In case you've forgotten, that was launched almost a year after the 360 did, and with a $300 pricetag.

I don't understand why some of you think that you should only pay what the product costs to make.

True, the company does need to make money to run the business!

The pricing for the Xbox and a few other things is extremely outdated. That was the costto make when it was first released, and doesn't take into account the decreases in price from mass production or die shrinks.

Microsofts console division has supposedly been making money finally (the Xbox 1 never made MS 1 dime, and the original 360 lost a good bit for ever console sold).

Right. They have bills and employees to pay, but there's plenty more that goes into a product besides manufacturing costs.

They give you software they made and open source software. With a PC you can get the bundles where you get some "awesome" free trial ware and download most of, or the equivalent of, what comes free with the Mac. I wouldn't be surprised if the cost of those programs were included in the manufacturing costs of that lap top. In fact, I would be more surprised if it wasn't included.

Edit: What do you think the chances that these per-product costs include an estimate of the marketing costs as well?

Not to mention the software on the Mac is full version software, and not all that trial crap.

Exactly!

Boatloads of money goes into R&D, Marketing, Packaging, Company Overhead. And of course you have to make some profit in there
