ASRock isn't "crap" per se... just their lower end boards weren't good for a while. I LOVED my last ASRock board, and I only gave it up for a much much better (on paper, about equal in reality) board. There's been more than a few times I wished I had the ASRock still.

I think once people start buying the newer boards form them, they'll be pleasantly surprised with the results they get.

On topic: I'm surprised this is still a topic, really... It's all about the bottom line and how much they feel like spending on making the items we buy. Asus just played a card they shouldn't have and got shown up by a company willing to make a little less per item, that's all.

I'm sure the performance numbers are in favor for more copper, but they weren't looking at temps, etc... they were looking at "if we do this, we'll lose 5 dollars per board! Now I can't get my kid a Bentley for their 16th birthday! Only a Mercedes!"

This.

Anyway, concerning Asrock, their boards aren't the best quality you'll find, but they have some nice gimmick boards sometimes. What I mean is, when I was back on my Socket 939 rig, I had an Asrock board that had both an AGP slot and a PCIE slot. I use my AGP Radeon X800XL until I had the cash to upgrade to my X1950GT

yeah features like that are always nice...

the fact that my ASUS P5GDC Pro p915 board had DDR1 and 2 support really helped me out at one point.
one of those brownish yellow boards... cheap as hell and still running strong, its on 24/7 as my fileserver for the past 5 years.

If the fins are soldered (The heatpipe is on the ends of the fins) to the fins, the heat will conduct better than nothing, glue or thermal paste.

Yeah - the asrock in my old rig (now bro's) had an AGP+PCIe slot and DDR1+DDR2 slots - useful since i originally had DDR and eventually upgraded to DDR2. The PCIe was rather useless though, since it was 1.0/1.1 and only x4 electrical. Runnin a 7600GS AGP lol
