So what would be the difference between the Q9X50 series and the i5? Since its basically the same thing

1. The price of i7's is not going to rise. That would be such a bad move on Intel's part in so many ways, and they know it. If/when they drop the 920, they will lower the prices of their higher-clockspeed counterparts to allow it to continue to compete at the same price point.
2. An i9 *should* be compatible with your current motherboard, with a BIOS update. I can't imagine Intel would require manufacturers to make a whole new lineup of motherboards just to allow the i9 processors to function, when they use the same socket-type of motherboards already out.

That's why I never speak of i5 but of Lynnfield. It's a lot easier to oversee the vast amount of processors if you know what they actually are, and not their names.
