This is outrageously confusing due to a lack of any solid information. But, as long as socket LGA1366 will be able to accept future i9 processors or at least have a relatively long life, I think I should be safe upgrading now. Let me get this straight though... i3 will be rebranded C2D processors, i5 will be a lower end i7 with a dual channel memory controller, and i9 will be a high end i7 version. Is that about right?

Can we PLEASE stop referring the Lynnfield as i5 and Gulftown as i9? It's been confirmed by Francois Piednoel (intel's top engineer) that Lynnfield will debut in core i5 and i7 branding! Honestly this is the last time I'm saying it... just sick of it.
