Yeah that makes sense.

Getting more than 8/8/4 PCI-E lanes out a Lynnfield setup is going to require some fancy work with bridge chips.

I very mistakenly got a MSI P45 board. What a POS, first mobo of mine which i had to take a solder to for something other than vmods.

MSI P45D3 was the board. Same board used at the Toms Hardware OC comp

I'm not sure where all the MSI hate is coming from. I've had two MSI boards (both AMD) and I've never had a problem so it may be a Intel thing. I've had multiple ASUS boards (intel and AMD) and 1 gigabyte board and they've had their quirks.

yea.. I guess the Dimm order is alittle weird. Probably an engineering thing.. who knows.

The first time that I got into the enthusist game I bought the MSI. It was the newest and baddest board for the AM2 that year. I bought it and there was something wrong with something. I was a noob so I sent back all of it and started over again but the board was really nice. I just went with ASUS after that and never looked back. But that MSI board had all the new stuff and their tech support told me about this website called overclock.net that would be able to help me over clock my old 9600BE.

Performance wise Intel has been slamming AMD into the ground.

If you care about maintaining the size of your wallet though, AMD still offers a pretty good option, Intel's trying to capitalize on people who don't feel like dropping $700 for a CPU, MB and RAM alone.

After seeing all the i7 boards, this one looks pretty boring.

So Core i7 has an onboard memory controller, but core i5 does not?

But everything else is the same? I wonder if it will really impede on performance?
