Default [Fudzilla] MSI's New i5 Board Leaked

MSIs New i5 socket LGA1156 board.

MSi P55-GD80 mainboard LGA1156

Many have anticipated the arrival of the new lower cost AMD Killer the Lynnfield core i5. While the i5 has more in common to the LGA775 socket than the i7, the i5 is still going to be a winner with alot of CPU Enthusist. The new i5 requires a completely different socket than the i7 but the i7 can be installed on the LGA 1156 socket but will not have triple channel capability. The new i5 will come out the same way the i7 did. A cheap version and a little more expensive version and ending with a Extreme version. I personally have not seen any overclocking result as the i5 is still waiting to be released but if I know intel, the 4 gig barrier on this bad boy will be very easy to jump.
This new LGA1156 Board boasts the new P55 Chipset and DDr Speeds of 2133 ddr3. That is double of 1066 if anybody noticed. With the increased bandwidth of DDr3 and double the speed of 1066 DDr2 most people will not mind a bit about the fact that this board is NOT Triple channeled. No the i5 is still a dual channel individual but not not like any other guy on the block. It is my estimation alone that the new i5 will become the new sweetheart for PC Enthusists including myself. While I have been a loyal AMD customer for years this new board and the lower cost little brother of the i7 is gonna be a big temptation for me to not pass up.
So I present to you my OCN brothers and sisters. The new LGA1156 board from MSI.

[fudzilla]

In addition to the P55-GD65, MSI is working on yet another P55 based motherboard that is much better and has some quite unique features previously unseen on motherboards, the P55-GD80.

The P55-GD65 which we seen before was quite good, but the P55-GD80 looks even more interesting and quite unique, at least as far as the feature goes. The details are still scarce as this one is still not finalized as well, but a picture has given us quite a few details.

It will be cooled by the same SuperPipe cooling that we have seen on P55-GD65 but this time it has a larger heatsink that has to cover the 8+2-phase VRM. It still supports dual-channel DDR3 memory and this one has three PCI-Express x16 2.0 slots, thanks to the Nvidia nForce 200 bridge chip.

In addition to the regular six SATA II ports, this one also has an additional controller for extra two internal, one eSATA and one IDE port. The backpanel is also quite crowded with two PS/2 ports for keyboard and mouse, one Coaxial and one Optical S/PDIF-out port, seven USB and one eSATA/USB combo port, two Ethernet and six audio ports.

You can notice some interesting feature like dual LED POST display, where the second one is located just above the first PCI-Express slot and which should show a CPU Phase status, GreenPower, Reset and Power on-board "touch" buttons, OC Genie, on board controls for clock speeds, and DIP switch for voltage control. Another interesting feature are the "vcheck" points next to the 24-pin power connector for easy access to motherboard voltages.
Intel LGA1156 Code Name Lynnfield

Core i5 Specifications and Prices Surface

Intel's next big thing in the making, the Core i5 series processors are nearing launch, which is reportedly delayed to October. The new processors replace the Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Duo series of processors, while leaving the high-end market for Core i7 to play with. These processors are based on the LGA 1156 socket, and are incompatible with Core i7 motherboards. Recent reports shed light on three models in the making to start the lineup, all of which are quad-core processors based on the Lynnfield core, built on the existing 45 nm process.

The common features of these processors include: four x86 processing cores with support for HyperThreading technology, an integrated dual-channel DDR3 memory controller specified to run DDR3-1066 and DDR3-1333 modules, 8 MB of L3 cache, and support for TurboBoost technology. The three models will come with core clock speeds of 2.66 GHz, 2.80 GHz, and 2.93 GHz. The three will be priced at US $196, $284, and $562 respectively. With the TurboBoost technology enabled, the clock speeds card be stepped up to 3.2, 3.46 and 3.6 GHz respectively, on the fly. Shortly after launching these processors, Intel may introduce the industry's first 32 nm processors. With these prices, the chips clearly intrude the price-domain of Core i7, though perhaps their lower platform costs could serve as deal-makers.

AMD killer? I think not. I thought i5 was going to support triple channel..but it doesn't? Pretty nice layout.

In terms of performance? Yes in terms of performance for price? No. I don't think they will ever beat AMD performance for price. Anytime soon that is.

AMDs stock rose really high recently since there price for performance is so good. Anybody who had stock with them made some moo-la

Yes but the intro of the new 45nm 955 AMD Quad core has kept up with the pack especially on the price to performance curb.

$3.36 a share is not really high lol. Hasn't seen $5 since last fall. Yeah it went up a fair percentage recently, but nothing insane.

AMD is selling chips for cheap because that's the only way they'll sell, since they're not up to the performance levels of Intel's offerings. Doesn't seem like they're making much profit on the chips either.
