I would like to see a manufacturer that uses both types of heat pipe arrangement on the same HSF so that we could find out which type would be more effective.

I believe this picture explains exactly how I want the heatpipes to be lined up.

Heatpipes parallel to the fan.

Heatpipes parallel to the fan.
I knew what you meant, I was just saying that we would need the identical cooler with both types of heat pipe arrangements in order to compare their effectiveness.

If the review is accurate, that's really nice to know since i've already ordered this at our local shop, should be coming in next week

Looks like a good cooler, though they should make it look better but who cares, if it performs well then its worth it.

Looks like a decent cooler, unfortunately once again this is another review where the testing methodology is pretty fail.

Quote:
While it does come out swinging and does continue to keep swinging even with the speed dial set to 11, in the end the 212 PLUS was edged out by the Prolimatech…which was also paired with a slower, quieter fan. We have a sneaking suspicion that this cooler was about maxed out and that if we had gone even higher the large mass of the Prolimatech would have continued to prove its worth. We also have to wonder if the numbers would have been as close IF the Prolimiatech had also been paired with a 2000rpm fan.
Then why not stick a 2000rpm or at least the same fan on the cooler? The only thing this does is inaccurately skew the performance (and thus perhaps value) of the cooler vs any other cooler in the test paired with a slower/less powerful fan.

They even had one test where the 212+ had two fans vs the megahalem's single fan (same fan perhaps, it was not clear). Man that's some poor ass testing.

Edit: The fan they used for the megahalems, while a good one for low-noise solutions, is horrid for cooling even medium OC's on heatsinks - especially on ones with higher fin density (such as the megahalems, TRUE). I mean come on, their logic is that they wanted to use the same fan for consistency, yet they use a fan that is absolutely not suitable for the task at hand! In fact, if they wanted an accurate test on the basis of performance, they should have used the same fan across all models. I suppose the fact that they were aiming for more of a 'out of the box, value' based approach resembles some sort of justification for the choice they made. They should have just run multiple tests, using a variety of fans such as stock (where available), low noise, high performance, etc.

90% of people who buy high end coolers buy high end fans to cool them appropriately. The lack of a fan in some retail products is actually usually beneficial, since it reduces the overall cost of the product. Providing fans with too high a CFM is usually accompanied with a noise level that most consumers would not be happy with, yet if you provide a poor ass fan people will eat the cost of said fan and usually also have to fork out for a decent one to suit the coolers purpose (to actually cool).

Once again, cooler looks decent, but the review is fail.

^I agree. I'd also say it's been done deliberately.
