Anyway, AMD needs to increase their cache and threads as well for their CPU's, but at least their Phenom II line range is doing well.
the phenom 2 line has been doing well since launch.

I have read in numerous places the 965 is exactly the same as a 955 just clocked a bit higher! wow...erm not. I would rather save money and buy the 955...Which seems to be getting cheaper and cheaper

The 940 is still rated the best AMD Chip that is out. I know the 955 is faster and uses DDr3 but the numbers are still coming out the same between the two.

That's the whole concept of speed binning... The C2Q Q9650 is exactly the same as the C2Q Q9550 execpt clocked a bit higher... I view this as a great sign of AMD's 45nm process. If you look at how fast AMD is introducing faster clocked parts and/or lower TDPs, it is a great sign of how fast the process is maturing. Compared to their 65nm, it took ages before they were able to get a faster bin, and even then they still had to resort to higher TDPs. Now all AMD needs is a more powerful architecture (*cough* Bulldozer) to take full advantage of the silicon.

Yes. QFT.

The Phenom 965 will have the same TDP as the 955 if this article is to be believed, which should mean that it will have higher OC'ing ability. This could be AMD's first quad to regularily hit 4.0ghz on an overclock, while the 940 and 955 usually tend to fall just a tad short.

I think the athlon quad cores that AMD is releasing are pure genius. They really need to take it to intel though. The manufacturing process on these needs to be optimized for maximum yields (with triple core variants they should be excellent) and they need to push a bottom line price and try to shut intel out of the sub 100 dollar market. They do that they can start to win over OEM's and budget workstation markets, which could be huge for AMD, and a first for them since the athlon days. Hopefully they scale pretty well in games and synthetic benchmarks. They probably only need to get within 15-20 percent of the Phenom II's clock for clock efficiency, or within 10% or so of the Q8 processors, to make it out on top. It could be a slam dunk if they prove more powerful then intel's budget quads benchmarked at stock clock speeds. OC'ing coming into play, the may still hold a lead. I am awaiting the benchmarks

65w quad....Decisions
AMD is rolling these out. Nice. Can't wait for the new HD integrated video. The HD3300 wasn't that bad.
There going to dominate the HTCP users.... In the next month, I can easily see a Corsair 400w pushing the 65w quad, new integrated video, and multiple hard drives.

I'm glad that I held off on purchasing an AMD system. I will wait till they release the 965 when I will evaluate possible build configurations.
