I prefer Gigabyte over ASUS anyday, though I admit ASUS does come up with better looking boards but Gigabyte wins for me because they have more features than ASUS boards anyway. Such examples as placing more SATA ports.

Now if only Gigabyte would start including external LCD posters with their high end boards instead of those cryptic, awkwardly placed onboard debug LEDs.

I don't know maybe it's me, but if I wouldn't buy a product that was called Ass-rock. Maybe it's just the way I pronounce it. Or is it AS-Rock?

Well if you can't beat them join them right... I have owned many many Asus boards and a few Gigabyte boards, an MSI, Biostar, DFI, Abit, and finally Foxconn. Of all of them I think Foxconn and Gigabyte are equally my favorites. Then Asus, and Abit, then DFI, the others I will never buy again LOL. Anway my point is that IMO Asus has gone down hill a lot sense my old P4P800 DE. That was a solid board, and was an OC monster. Now Asus boards tend to be troublesome and fail, and forget about the support. You can count on a great OC I will say that, and an RMA every 6-9 months as well. Never broke a Gigabyte or Foxconn yet, or Abit for that matter.

so what if ASRock is a subsidiary of ASUS... they still make their own decisions... at least on that level. they could very well have several different methods than asus does.

IMO "Xtreme Design" doesn't convey as much helpful information to the buyer as "Ultra Durable" on the first look.
