If you were to get a £2999 laptop, it would be much, MUCH better than any Apple laptop on the market.
(Note: I refuse to call Apples laptops whatever they think it should be called. It's a laptop, not iMacPhone3G)

We have reasonable 470 benchmarks you can figure out GTX480 performance. At BEST you're going to see ~12.5% increase in performance from 448sp -> 512sp assuming 100% scaling. If there's anything we've learned from 8800gt to 8800GTS and gtx260 to gtx280 that the additional shaders do not quite scale linearly, closer to 70-90% scaling. If GTX470 is 0-10% slower than the 5870, then we can REASONABLY expect GTX480 to be ~5-10% faster than the 5870. As drivers mature the relative performance against the 5870 will change but the 480/470 relative performance won't significantly change.

Meh, they were lame commercials anyway. They were uncreative and just as "deceptive" (I'm using that term very loosely) as the apple ads are said to be.

Well, im sure that they were legally required to change the ad. If they say specific prices on MACs and they're not really priced that anymore, then you're advertising something false. They're saying macs are "exactly this much more expensive" instead of just being "more expensive." I can see the reasoning behind the logic for changing, but they WERE more effective when they could give exact prices.

Not too concerned, I like that Windows was giving back what Apple dished out.
I hate seeing lesser computer litterate people being persuaded by anything they hear.
