The main reason I don't use an iPhone is because I have no friends or family, and it seems silly to pay so much money for something that will ultimately be the equivalent of a low-powered flashlight.

The article itself seems pretty meaningless. "Closed source, expensive, carrier exclusive" etc. we've been hearing this since the iPhone launched (all valid, but that doesn't give the author an excuse to retread this as news). Granted, he is posting under "tech inciter" and it seems he has done just that, start another pro/anti apple flame-war. Also, I didn't see any hard sales numbers to support the "apple rotting" metaphor in the link he gave. I prefer my flamebait to have a little more substance.
Go, go PCworld!

I don't own an iPhone, and won't have the funds nor need for one in the foreseeable future, but I think they are smart pieces of tech that have made the smartphone market start to make sense for the average consumer. People are certainly paying a premium for the Apple name, but the features are certainly there too. If that makes them happy, and I am certainly happy with the three year old macbook that's merrily sitting alongside my windows PC, more power to them.

You need to go to a store that sells good arguments.

Look at the thread title and tell me that's not flamebait.

*Yawn* Yet ANOTHER anti-iPhone/AT&T article QQ'ing.

Still love my iPhone. And it STILL is the best selling phone... oh and that App Store that's "doomed to failure" has like 10x apps of anywhere, and most are really high-quality. While I don't always agree with Apple's approval methods, I really don't care.

I'm sorry for you Kuntz! I'm sort of in the same boat, since most of my friends don't care about tech stuff. A phone is a phone to them. My dad is the one with the iPhonet though, a fact I find hilarious. I'm still using a crappy old nokia. Weird when the old people get the one-up techwise.

I think News posters on here are deliberately increasing the number Apple-related threads purely to start flame wars. Conspiracy? Maybe.

I am very happy with my iphone. It does exactly what I want it to do and it does it very well.

I use it for phoning, texting, e-mails, web browsing, iPod, games and various useful apps - especially Google Maps.

Yes, other phones do these things too, but the iPhone, for me, does it really well. So easy to use, looks great and hasn't missed a beat.

Most people I know that have one are very happy with it. Some people are hard to please, but most people who bash the iPhone never really properly used it.

Seems to be the case with most Apple bashers.

Everything the author said after this nonsense is basically true. But iPhone users are not revolting, users are not turning against the iPhone. It continues to sell at a pace that the competition would kill their own mother to get. ElMike is correct: The author used this headline and opening sentence, which is pure anti-Apple flame bait, to get people to read an article that they otherwise would ignore because we've all heard this a zillion times.
