I feel like the updates made to the phone's OS are good and help with its functionality. I think that when the population that uses the phone growls at Apple enough, they finally succumb to our demands and add that feature we've been begging for. I mean, they finally gave us copy+paste, and it's very functional.

AT&T has been a great service to me as well. I can't complain at all about them, except for the price. But, I'm comfortable and happy with my iPhone, and therefore I am willing to pay a little more.

I will probably look into an Android phone later this year if AT&T doesn't hold up to their claims that MMS will be here by the end of summer. So, don't let me down AT&T.. I am getting tired of emailing photos..
$120/month!!!!!! I'm glad my company pays for my cell phone.....

Posts like this, as well as the article itself even being allowed on OCN, make me just want to stop coming here. I dislike the totalitarian Apple myself, but at the same time I cannot simply agree with posts like the one I have quoted.

Quote:
App Store -- Do I really need to keep making the case that having Apple as the only vendor of iPhone apps is bad for customers? The rejection of Google Voice, potentially a killer app for smartphones, should prove that Apple doesn't care about its customers.
Apple has made press statements that Google Voice was NEVER rejected. Google it.

Edit
nvm found it on my twitter
it was claimed that AT&T was the one who requested to remove the google voice
app. They deny it but i believe they did because things regarding the phone itself they always interferr with in some way. Of course Apple has to bend over
for AT&T. I do find it wrong to do things like that where its accepted and then removed (i was mistakened that it was rejected)
http://www.quickpwn.com/2009/08/att-...oice-apps.html
apple did infact accept it

Quote:
The App Store approval process seems capricious and arbitrary. Spend time and money to develop an application only to have it denied for reasons nobody can quite articulate in advance. Developers would flee the App Store given a chance. They should have that option.
False.
Majority of apps that are denied are given proper reasoning. The reason for the approval process is so that apps are quality or at least somewhat within the guidelines of the standard Apple wants. And that standard is ideal. Do you want an App Store filled with :turd: and nonfunctional, improper, and rip off Apps or do you want a half decent App Store that has alot to offer - with tons of fully functional and helpful/nice apps?

Not to mention, nothing is stopping you for resubmitting your app.
Alot of the apps that do get rejected have valid reasons for being rejected - regardless of your opinion. Things like using external files like ROMs. That would leave massive exploits open in the phone if Apple allowed this kind of function in the apps in the App Store. It wouldn't be ideal, not to mention idiots who would use files that weren't intended to be used for the app that could even break their phones. Then there are many many many incidents were apps are denied because of AT&T and their little :turd: that they pull. You simply cannot lay down the entire blame on Apple for that stuff.

Quote:
Yes, that would mean porn for the iPhone, but besides that I am no longer sure what Apple's ironhanded control of iPhone apps is getting me as a consumer. I appreciate if there are apps that Apple doesn't want to sell, but should Apple be the sole arbiter and supplier? Certainly not.
Refer to the above.
If you have a bone to pick about Apple about this, then boy - this author needs to get a grip on reality and look at EVERY other phone on the market. (beside Android based phones I suppose?) Verizon requires ALL of their phones to use locked OS systems branded with Verizon EVERYWHERE and customization is not allowed. To top the cake, there is no App Store. If they did have one, chances are it would be alot worse then the validation process that Apple has. Apple has a very very streamlined system that WORKS. I'm getting into App development myself, and I've made about 5 working apps already (simple little apps that I made just to get used to the development) and I've looked into the submission and validation process very deeply. Its pretty damn simple and easier. I honestly don't think anyone, as of this moment, has as good a process of distribution.

Quote:
The Apple monopolies must go.
Again - get a grip on reality. Look around. Apple can be a little totalitarian as I said before but what monopolies is this troll talking about?

Quote:
Multitasking -- I did not expect multitasking to become a big deal so soon, but Google Latitude makes an excellent case for it. The iPhone OS is capable of multitasking, but Apple limits it to a few applications, such as the music player. Multitasking needs to be available to non-Apple other applications, too. It is available on iPhone competitors.
Actually, multi tasking can be a very battery tolling. It is very ideal for Apple to not enable things like the jailbreak app "Backgrounder" on unjailbroken phones. You'll have people that will be stupid, and be like "OH WHY IS MAH BATTERY DIEING?!!!! APPLE HELP ME OR IM GOING TO SUE SUE SUE SUE SUE". Again - reality check. THIS IS THE WORLD WE LIVE IN. If you don't make it idiot proof, then you're going to have law suits up the butt.

Quote:
AT&T -- I am not wild about Sprint advertising that I am paying $50-a-month too much because I am using an iPhone instead of a Palm Pre. I am not wild that Apple adds tethering to the iPhone but I don't get to use it. I am not wild that I am still waiting for the ability to attach pictures to SMS messages. I am not wild about slow speeds and dropped calls. Is AT&T listening? Doesn't seem to be and I'm not wild about that, either.
AT&T is stupid. This I can agree with but at the same time I can find middle ground. This is not all Apple's fault. Apple couldn't go to Verizon for reasons I pointed out earlier very clearly. There were also complications with Sprint I believe.
Not to mention, you can't blame AT&T entirely. Apple has sold MILLIONS of iPhones, more then the Palm Pre wishes it could. All those phones taxing the network is a very money and resource taxing occurrence. People even tether the iPhone REGARDLESS via jailbreak (I do).

Quote:
iPhone developers should, right now, start supporting other platforms because it is in their best interest to do so. It appears likely that Android and Palm's WebOS will support better applications than iPhone and building them now will put the heat on Apple to improve its game.
Apple really doesn't need to improve anything. This guy acts like he is in development, but it sounds as if he hasn't even installed the SDK yet alone enroll in Apple's development platform all throughout the article. This quote right here really make it stand out.

Yes, it is a good thing to support multiple platforms. But he also has to remember that not everyone has multiple phones and contracts and :turd:. People aren't going to develop for phones they don't own! Maybe big businesses and companies that always do that kind of stuff like Disney and other commercial brands.

Quote:
I am not sure what to do about Apple's control of the music business, except to notice it's become a monopoly, which is something that is bad for consumers. If Apple were wise it would offer an API that allows any smartphone to work with iTunes. This will happen eventually, but why not now?
Oh - this amazing idea came upon me like an ephiphany.... JUST IGNORE APPLE PRODUCTS IF YOU HATE THEM?! Oh my god - did I just become the next Einstein?

You buy their stuff or use iTunes - you're showing them support regardless if you actually hate their guts or not.

Quote:
The sense of smug superiority that we iPhone users have enjoyed has worn off. Now, instead of being the ones who've chosen, we're pawns in the games of AT&T and Apple. What used to be mere annoyances have become real pains. And the companies that ought to be our friends are the causes of our frustration.
Oh get over yourself. This guy is worse then most PS3 or Xbox 360 Fanboys.

Quote:
If there were someplace to jump ship to, iPhone users, instead of upgrading to the 3GS would be changing platforms. Maybe by the holidays such a place will exist or Apple and AT&T will have been forced to change their customer-hostile ways. In the meantime, waiting is the best option.
Throughout the "article" this guy has been completely ignorant. The title says it all.
"As Apple Rots, iPhone Users Revolt"
News flash. Apple is not "rotting". Users are not "revolting". Apple is selling iPhones out the rear and have been for awhile. They will continue to do so.
The 3GS sold over 1 million units the weekend it came out. The 3GS was announced only a MONTH before it came out, maybe a little less then that. Oh, and the 3GS only came out a month or 2 ago. -.-

I'll restate myself. If you don't like Apple, don't show support for them. Plain and simple. But making silly articles that are biased, have no middle ground whatsoever, obviously no understanding behind the claims it is making, and doesn't even remotely try to place him/herself in Apple or AT&T's shoes is just stupid and shouldn't taint OCN. And posts that show support for these articles shouldn't either.

I'll also restate that I'm not a big fan of Apple either. I have had and still have a hate for their Macs and iPods. The term iPod shouldn't be the general term for MP3 players - I cringe whenever people do it. I hate Apple for it too with an utmost hate because they couldn't finally break the brand name and come out with something new and instead just rehash the same ipod over and over and over (until the iTouch that is).

Rereading my post I need to clarify one thing.

Quote:
Actually, multi tasking can be a very battery tolling. It is very ideal for Apple to not enable things like the jailbreak app "Backgrounder" on unjailbroken phones. You'll have people that will be stupid, and be like "OH WHY IS MAH BATTERY DIEING?!!!! APPLE HELP ME OR IM GOING TO SUE SUE SUE SUE SUE". Again - reality check. THIS IS THE WORLD WE LIVE IN. The iPhones battery is pretty good - obviously somewhat lesser then some can deal with. Me personally don't have too much a problem. I would prefer more life, and I'm sure if I reverted back to factory settings (non jailbreak) it would be better but even there it is lacking to some. The 3GS even improves on it. Enabling multitasking wouldn't be too much of a problem. The phone can indeed handle it.

But, idiots will abuse it. While the problem may not be existant on other phones (which I doubt it is not, and I'm sure users do have some problems) - with all the apps there are, it is impossible for apple to monitor and deal with every situation where people are using intensive apps and decide to multi task with them. The iPhone wasn't tooled to do that, and it shows in using things like Backgrounder after jailbreaking. There are some battery issues, even if you only lightly use it.

i have a samsung epix (windows mobile pro 6.1) and i can do everything the iphone does (minus gravity sensing) and all the things the author would like...im not the biggest fan of windows mobile as it takes a lot of hacks and modifications to get it to run like i like it to, it is nice to have the options it has.

Omega you are a smart man, its sad people are so up in arms bcuz the iphone is not a perfect fit for everyone! its apple its a private business not a government owned organization they can run their products how they want get over it.

Anyways the article is very bias and not true at all in what i know being sorrounded by people with iphones 24/7 all i hear is how this thing is a godsend, and wow its nice not having to jailbreak it and deal with all the other OS problems ive had on smartphones...

Sorry but just keep dreaming anti-apple people the phone is not failing lol

EDIT: also the title "As Apple Rots" umm didnt they just post a increase in profit from last year.. even in a recession? and was it not some 8+ Billion Dollars

Luckily here in the UK we have O2 as our official iPhone network provider - by the sounds of it, much better than AT&T.
