Damn, now our PCs are going to get old and we would have to put them in old Computer homes just to be able to game on them. Ugh. : (

But this is pretty sweet. Wonder how it works.

True that it would be hard to run out of normal sand, the stuff used in microchip would only last for so long.
Also, not sure how to explain this, but we can only get so small with our current technique of making CPU's, so we would need new materials to make smaller CPU dies.

Its made from sand in a, I believe a fairly costly process.

DNA is nucleic acid, not protein. Proteins are composed of amino acids....which are a little simpler in structure, but there's 20 primary ones compared to DNA's 4 main bases and thus proteins are far more diverse in structure and function.

I would honestly think that they would have used RNA here and not DNA for making "origami" out of a nucleic acid. There's this one technique that scientists use a lot in laboratories (called Selex) in which they can select for a particular structure or function of RNA without having to engineer anything (they literally use millions of different random stretches of RNA, find some way to select for a function that they want, and say "go!") and keep refining it with increasing amount of "selection cycles", or repetitions, of the technique. It's quite a fascinating thing if you want to look it up on google or something. The reason that I was thinking that RNA would be better suited is because it is capable of forming secondary ultrastructure on its own and have catalytic activity (ribosomes are probably the best example of this) whereas DNA is boring and basically stuck in a double helix formation. In eukaryotes DNA needs the help of special proteins called histones in order for it to supercoil and form ultrastructure like what happens when DNA gets condensed into chromatin.

Anyways, this was a cool article nonetheless!

FYI, Protein =/= DNA. They are two different complex molecule.

It was only a matter of time before we made CPU out of organic compound after OLED. We got ourselves an interesting future computer technology.

I thought DNA was a type of protein?

DNA contains the information needed to construct proteins.

so it in itself isn't a protein...
