Default [HC] XFX Radeon HD 5850 1GB GDDR5 Review

XFX Radeon HD 5850 1GB GDDR5 Review

A few weeks ago, the world’s love affair with ATI’s new 5000-series started with the release of the HD 5870 amid a swarm of positive reviews. Even though there were some small hitches in performance versus the best of the best from the previous generation, ATI’s new product showed itself to be one of the best currently on the market while including some killer features to boot. However, ATI didn’t stop there and went ahead and soft launched the HD 5870’s little brother as well. Today we look at the card that is perhaps making a larger splash in the GPU market pool than any single chip flagship: the HD 5850...

It seems to be a better buy for the money since it beats the GTX285 in almost every test.

Even though it never comes close to HD 5870 performance, there isn’t a single NVIDIA card on the market other than the GTX 295 that can best it on a regular basis. Perhaps even more impressively, the XFX HD 5850 1GB does all of this while being one of the quietest, most efficient performance-oriented cards on the market today.
boys.... Nvidia better have a good GT300 chip, or else they've switched sides with ATI and are in their position when they launched the 2000 and 3000 series. Stuck with underperforming cards while the opponent makes a killing.

Wow, the 5850 is ~1 - 3 fps away in performance from the GTX 285. In some benchmarks like the COD: WaW it surpasses the GTX 285. It's also $110 cheaper than the GTX 285 on Newegg.

Boy they need better drivers. Is not that much faster then 4890. I thought 1440SP should help it. It should be at least 50% then 4890.

Why do people persist in the idea that double the SP's means double the performance.

Show me ONE card where performance scaled over the previous generation by the exact percentage of increased transistors. There is none.
