So it is a problem with the geometry of the cpu in the socket, under pressure, or...?

The horror. I guess a company as large as Foxconn is going to have problems with some component or other, sooner or later. I wonder if Foxconn is to blame for certain problems with the Classified mobos. I noticed their name next to the socket on my mobo, but after I RMA'd it, the next one had no "Foxconn" printed on the pcb next to the socket.

I guess you could call it on the geometry. Each pin has to be of a lesser gauge if you want more pins ins said area. Thinner contacts/wires means less current can safely flow through them.

That thread goes into it a lot more. If you wanna know more about the reasons why the sockets aren't holding up check it out

Whichever way you look at it, it's current draw related. 160+w is pushing the socket design quite hard it seems, and yes running Linx you can get to this quite easily over 4.3GHz, so people just need to be a little more cautious, no need to torture the design too much to prove its stable or otherwise.

Both times it has happened to me on two different CPU's (one was a real bad CPU for frequency only 4.8Ghz max), it has been when I have seen full load EPS 12v draw at 20.5 amps (both times different boards). PWM efficiency at these kinds of loads should be 80-85% at a guess, and then you have say 30-40w (guess) going to VTT as well, so 160-180w to VCC.

BTW even on the beefy pin sockets, the the contact point density is pretty much the same and limited by the pad design of the CPU. Real solution here would be just to have more VCC pads.
Means that it could even happen while running a stability test :S

If this does happen to you who's going to replace your processor?

Intel will not have it back as they'll put it down to user error by not installing it properly.

I think you missed some of the point here. Foxconn makes everything in yoru computer. There is probably not a component in your computer right now that does not have something in it made by Foxconn. I know the sockets on all MSI and Gigabyte will be made by them or some of the parts in them will be made by them.

I went to a Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. (Ltd.) factory in HsinChew once and bought a CD drive. I asked what drive it was. The reply "What do you want it to be." He pulled out a box of stickers for LG, Sony, LightOn and others. The thing is they were "real". They were actual stickers that you would find on the drive you bought from newegg today.

Lol, cool story, I think the majority of the optical drives are manufactured by various factories licensed and designed by NEC and then re-badged like you said.
