TSMC's recent issues may impact the shipping schedules of the GPU vendors, market watchers commented.

During TSMC's July 2009 investors conference, Chang revealed that yield rates for 40nm processes had improved to 60%, up from as low as 20-30% in the second quarter of 2009.

I don't know who this hurts more,

AMD can't make enough 5xxx series cards to benefit from the early release,

But nVidia can't get enough ready for launch

When TMSC figures it all out, The same shortages will disappear leaving whoever has the better product/price in the lead (so i guess nvidia wins??)

So this would coincide with the Fud report that the yields really were terrible in the beginning? Would this also explain why the 5XXX series of ATI cards are so hard to find?

Hopefully TSMC can get their yields up past 80 and we can see a price drop on 40nm cards.

Possibly that and/or because AMD didn't buy enough wafers
