The funny thing is that even when you are gaining performance on every driver release like you say

My card still destros yours in Crysis. Even though my card seems to pretty much do all it can with Crysis and has done it for a while.

See the difference is that it doesn't take nvidia years to get the most out of your card.
Ohhh... that was clever.

While we're on this page, my cards destroy your card.

1) What part about this article did you pull "smear campaigns about the competition" from? They do not mention nVidia nor are they making a campaign out of this FORUM POST.

2) "Far off promises": Are you denying that cards run better after the drivers mature?

3) Quite frankly, most of what nVidia has been doing recently is smear campaigns, so I fail to see your point. My sarcasm meter would normally be peaking right now, but given your prior pro-nVidia posts, I believe you are serious....

In this case I'd be okay with it. The 5800 is currently the best performing card out there (with exception to the 295, which is now probably not worth its price tag). Depending on when Nvidia drops their cards this performance bump will probably move it on up to compete better. I'm assuming Nvidia's cards will be at least somewhere near the ATI cards in performance.

However, we won't know for a bit!

Duh. Improved driver performance as time passes is a given.

This^

I can't believe anyone is even debating the fact.

It has happened with every GPU made, it will happen with HD5xxx, it will happen with Fermi.

It isn't always the same amount of improvement, but it can sometimes be massive. Anywhere from 5-25% over the lifetime of a card, and sometimes as much as 5-10% in a single update in a specific title.

I doubt most gpus on the desktop are ever at their full potential. On consoles they're pushed far futher than on their desktop equivilents (though this is because consoles have set hardware).

It's too bad your card loses to everything else.....Have fun with the one and only game your card is good at, Crysis!
