Earliest they will be released is February 2010. However since they will not be in great supply, you will likely not even get one in March 2010. It's a shame ATI's 6870 will be coming out shortly afterwards, I wonder what will be the point of even buying a GT300 based card.

I hate to admit it, but he's at least partly right... by the time Fermi reaches full availability it will be solidly halfway through ATI 5xxx's scheduled product cycle.

Right, if they're on schedule that is. But it's not like HD 6xxx will be readily available in Q1 or Q2 of next year.

At this point in time, I pretty much trust AMD graphics division's abilities to stick to schedule. Still not so sure about CPU division.

I don't really trust any of them now lol. Well, maybe Intel as far as releasing things on time goes.

I'm actually not sure why I trusted Nvidia to get this out on time now that I think about it...

I don't believe ATI will be able to double everything up for HD6000, meaning I don't think 3200 SPs, 64 ROPs, 160TMUs, etc.. will be possible. It is very probably Fermi will remain competitive with HD6000 and after Fermi, Nvidia will have a much easier time rolling out evolutionary upgrades as the groundwork will be laid out with Fermi.

You know how big of a failure the R600 was, correct? Well, the RV870 uses the exact same architecture.

I don't think Fermi will be directly comparable to R600 though, because not only was R600 massively late, but it was significantly slower than the competition, while Fermi is poised to be faster.

But Fermi is also poised to cost a lot more, personally I think it will just end up like HD48x0 vs GTX 2xx.

Really depends on whether they hit 28nm/whether any major revisions are made to the arch.

Saying RV870 is identical to R600 is a bit of a misnomer.

I'd guess the 6870 is out around Sept 2010. They've publicly said 2H 2010, but both the 4870 and 5870 were August & September iirc.
