I feels like there is nothing stoping them but with you overclock the 5870 to 1Ghz they will pull ahead more.

If it's truly correct that the 5970 is declocked to fit within the PCI+8+6pin power 'specifications', and that there is actually more power available outside specification, then this card will be an overclocker's dream. However, it probably means that marketing the 5970 won't be very easy. If you can't claim the true performance of the card, only well informed buyers will pick it up.

Atleast we know this is simulated. Better than being tricked like what someone did .

Okay. I just read the original article in German and I must say that: these guys should read more books in order to improve their grammar (the German article contained way too many orthographical errors). Props to Google for even being able to translate that.
__________________But yeah, just imagine you could unmount the stock heatsinks and fan(s) from the 5870x2 (5970, or whatever it's gonna be called) and attach a nice big-a$$ copper waterblock with good waterflow onto the pcb. That would eliminate the noise and the heat obstacles. Do you think it would be overclockable to the strength of TWO 5870's? or even beyond? it would become very power-hungry I can imagine.. I understand that they wanna save energy, but somehow it's a shame that they wanna downclock these cards.

Seems better to go with 2x 5870s. I hope this isn't true.

It's worse than that, it's not a true simulation. The 4870x2 beat two 4870's even with it's lower clock speeds do to memory management. I expect the same will probably apply here.
