Default [XBIT] - Price War Reversed: ATI Icreases Pricing of New High-End Graphics Card.

Quote:
ATI, graphics business unit of Advanced Micro Devices, on Monday said that it would increase the price of its ATI Radeon HD 5850 graphics processing unit (GPU) by $20+ due to overwhelming demand towards the new graphics cards as well as increased costs of components and logistics.
**Source : http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/d...hics_Card.html

The 9700 PRO Days are back. Pricing is goind up and what some of us feared, including myself, is happening right now. Where is FERMI, where is the competition?

ATI seems to forget the tightspot they had before the 5 series. They were selling as cheap as possible, now, money talks. Rip as much as you can...

Well, there always is the issue of supply and demand.

And since it is the best you can get, you'd expect a premium. Competition will drive it down, if/when it comes.

Boo... this sucks. Well, I guess because due to short supply, high demand, and no competition AMD/ATI has decided to increase their prices.

But come to think of it, at least they aren't charging an arm and leg unlike NVIDIA and Intel.

i dont know if this would still be happening if tsmc had their yields fine.

regardless, the 5870 is perfectly priced, the 5850 is too low, and ati need a card that's 5770>5850.

I guess it depends how badly you want those new cards
If you can wait for the competition the prices will become more competitive

But with enthusiasts they want the best hardware now and i guess they are willing to pay a premium for that!

Price is going up because they're hard to get... not because Fermi isn't out yet.
