The MSI models (most commonly found for a good price, unlike the Original HP's) are selling pretty well.

And most consumers are happy with them.

Side by Side, Atom can't even compete with Neo. It's faster.

But netbooks aren't about performance.

Cheap > Faster.

Well considering the current Atom platform struggles to do almost everything while Neo does not.

Opening up any full fledged office program (Office 03, Office 07, Open Office, Lotus Symphony) is a waiting game.

Playing back any form of media beyond basic flash & low quality sources yeild incredibly high CPU usage, and anything in the HD range (IE 480p and up) is laggy.

Again... different pricing points.

Atom is aimmed at mobile devices, UMPC, netbooks.... $100-500 range.
Athlon Neo is aimmed at ultrathin notebooks in the $600-800 range.

Intel can produce Atoms for less than $10 per.... can AMD do the same? Don't forget Pinetrail is coming out soon and should help video playback.

Yet AMD is doing what Atom should have, but right now.

At less than $500

Though, you can already buy a lower power laptop that is able to do well right now for under $500 from Intel.

Atom might be very cheap, but it's not implimented well.

I thought netbooks is all about SMALL size, not cost.
If You are saying "cheap > faster" and then take a look at the price of some netbooks that is much higher than regular laptops where does this lead ...?

It's the stupid 945 chipset. If Atom was paired with a half-decent chipset (i.e. NVIDIA ION), it would meet virtually all of mainstream portable user needs. Hopefully, Pine Trail will change this situation.

Any idea how much Neo costs in bulk? The standard Atom 230 costs around $6-8 to produce and sell for $29 per in 1K bulk orders.

Nope, Atom/netbooks were primarily about cost. There's a debate about high-cost Atom system but those tend to be the exceptions.
