Default [HT4U] AMD Radeon HD 5850 quietly cool: Alternative radiators tested

Quote:
After having an alternate cooling for the AMD Radeon HD 5770 in the form of Arctic Cooling Acceleron L2 had already pro tested successfully, the issue was raised, how it looks with alternatives to cool the Radeon HD 5800-series. We wanted to explore the question, of course, and engaged with us once in the laboratory contained cooling solutions, which generally come from distance from the hole in question and are also technically capable of being able to compete with a powerful model such as the Radeon HD 5850th

A cooler as the Arctic Cooling Accelero L2 Pro certainly not playing in the league of graphics cards like the Radeon HD 5850th To stay in this league performance but then again questions about the fit. Thus we are dealing today with the models once Zalman VF 1000 LED, Arctic Cooling Accelero S1, HR-03 Thermalright and Scythe Musashi.

Too bad we can't keep the stock plate on the 5870 as some have reported.

I wish they came out with a aftermarket aluminum heat plate to cool the RAM and VRMs.

Musashi for sure but it still has issues cooling the VRM and there is no way to fit any extra heat spreaders on them with the Musashi installed....hmmmm....definitely need an official aftermarket cooler. The VRMs heating up on a solid overclock would have me way too worried.

Not being sure where the VRMS are on this card, it looks like the Musashi could be used to pin some modified copper heatsinks on them, but would have to be very careful about the height.

Thermalright might do another one like they did for the HD4800 series.

Just stick mini heatsinks on there.

I believe they did that in their review and it didn't help much...although I was having a tough time reading it so I could be wrong. In any case if your going with the Musashi the mini-heatsinks would have to be very short as there is little to no room available.

I have a solution instead of a suggestion, wait till I'm done with my testing of the 5870 and my style of cooling then decide if it is not going to work.

Notes:

Zalman VF 1000: The testers are idiots, they didn't use the cooler for the VRM's that Zalman produced like this: http://www.cooltechpc.com/ctpc/image..._installed.jpg , sure you might have to drill a bigger hole to fit it over the area but modding is what we do! Maybe that I'm going to cool my 5870 like that ^_^(gota stay tuned)

First off, the musashi can cool fine, just need some type of metal on them and you will be fine. Overclocking? Doubt it

Accelero S1: WHAT ARE THEY THINKING!!!!!!!!! You are supposed to use a R2 S1!!! That will fit and work! Also it comes with VRM cooling! That really ticked me off when I saw that. http://www.overclock.net/hardware-ne...ork-gfxmod.jpg that is how it is done!

Man, I should been there to help them with this since they have no clue lol. Watch my solution will work.

Lastly, I'm glad to see the http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/A...front_full.jpg (were the white sticker is) I know know full well that it needs to be cooled properly. The card can be cooled efficiently, just have to be creative.
