I don't really see this as increasing stability, because the 5 micron contacts are just as conductive as the 15 micron contacts. However, I think that for people who stick with one motherboard but switch out RAM/CPU's on a weekly basis, this may help with increasing the number of insertion cycles. Reviewers, for instance, may swap out CPU's/RAM hundreds of times before a motherboard is considered "spent" and can't be used anymore.

RE oxidation, I have never had a motherboard long enough to realize the effects of oxidation, so it's kind of a moot point. Unless you plan on 500 cpu/ram insertion cycles and are living in the jungle.

This, its completely useless, but I personally wouldn't buy an ECS board either :/

EVGA already does this for their high-end motherboard CPU sockets...

It's to also help reduce resistence when uber-overclocking.

I have seen the dustiest, nastiest looking 10 year old motherboards for sale in a box at different yard sales and I couldn't find any oxidation. As you said, you must be living in a jungle for that to happen.

I'd like silver plated contacts instead. Its more conductive (even more than copper). And it doesn't oxidize in air either.

ECS is the 4th largest mobo maker behind Asus, Gigabyte and MSI.

Just because they make OEM and budget boards doesn't mean they should be frowned upon.

Gold is yellow and electricity is yellow so they conduct well together.

Silver is good for conducting water vapor, dust, more grayish things.

In terms of thermal or electrical conductivity? Both

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_conductivity

Silver is quite a bit ahead of gold in terms of electrical (and thermal) conductivity.
