That's the one (awesomely) useful use I see for this.

This USB 3.0 drive is useful under RAID0 SSD applications. A single SSD still has yet to reach 320MB/sec.

The fastest SSD out right now, the Patriot Torqx, tops out at 200MB/sec write speed.

It's useless if it reads/writes faster than your computer's HDD/SSD anyways.
It would be awesome for a portable Windows 7 though.
Yeah they're called eSATA thumb drives.

I won't bore you with the details, this conclusion stems from a few years of experience in the field.
Seriously, what? I don't get what sparked the question. Edit: Burn seems to have cleaned it up.
I misunderstood your post, I thought you were saying that an SSD would be faster than this no matter what. My bad.

They are probably using a LucidPort controller...

http://www.storagenewsletter.com/new...torage-devices
Quote:
Designed with LucidPort's USB300 USB 3.0 to SATA bridge chip, these SuperSpeed USB drives can transfer up to 250 Mbytes/sec. Existing USB 2.0 drives run between 25 to 35 Mbytes/sec. These drives are fully backwards compatible to legacy USB 2.0/1.1 hosts and can operate with the standard USB mass storage drivers found in Windows, MacOS, and Linux PCs today.
