Default [DT] AT&T sues Verizon

Quote:
Early last month, Verizon began assaulting AT&T with new commercials which were an interesting twist on the AT&T-backed iPhone "There's a app for that" commercials. Verizon turned the ads around to point out all of the holes in AT&T's 3G coverage and numerous dropped calls that have been reported with the service.
The Verizon commercials came right on the heels of reports that a 30 percent dropped call rate in New York City for the iPhone was considered "normal".

It was only a matter of time, but it appears that AT&T has had enough of Verizon's commercials which mock its 3G coverage in the United States. According to the Wall Street Journal, AT&T is going after Verizon with a lawsuit.

AT&T noted the following according to Engadget:

Quote:
In essence, we believe the ads mislead consumers into believing that AT&T doesn't offer ANY wireless service in the vast majority of the country. In fact, AT&T's wireless network blankets the US, reaching approximately 296M people. Additionally, our 3G service is available in over 9,600 cities and towns. Verizon's misleading advertising tactics appear to be a response to AT&T's strong leadership in smartphones. We have twice the number of smartphone customers... and we've beaten them two quarters in a row on net post-paid subscribers. We also had lower churn -- a sign that customers are quite happy with the service they receive.
More at DT

Pretty sure the commercials only knocked 3G coverage and not overall coverage...

Ridiculous! the ads clearly refer to 3G, not voice and 1x data rates. Sounds like AT&T is just butt-hurt, lol.

But he has a different source. If we weren't allowed to post a different site with the same information, we'd really only have one News entry for how Fermi isn't out yet.

Careful perusal of the rules has corrected me. It is, in fact, one thread per story, not per source.

I found the commercial to be pretty misleading as well... whenever the guy goes "And theres a (m?)app for that", I swear he is saying map but the commercial editors edited it out just to get some attention :P

The commercials are clearly making fun of the 3G coverage and not wireless service.

Anyone seen the new commercials for the Droid? It pokes fun at what the iPhone supposedly can't do.

This makes me laugh

I've seen all these commercials on T.V and they are talking generally about

- Applications on Verizon phones vs AT&T(There is no copyright of restrictions only on AT&T phones) AT&T loose
- Verizon then states the United States of America map comparing 3G coverage of Verizon vs AT&T(How is this unlawful comparing coverage?)
- These commerials ONLY state 3G coverage, not ALL coverage

AT&T has absolutely no chance of winning this. Verizon did nothing illegal, and the commercials are very clear as to what Verizon is comparing. I bet you AT&T's only line of attack will basically be "The consumer is too stupid to know the difference between 3G and Wireless coverage area, therefore they will just assume these commercials are saying you can't get AT&T service in most parts of the country."

Which may very well be the case, but you can't win a suit because the public is ignorant.
