Default [Hexus] AMD-powered MSI Wind12 U230 'netbook' coming soon

Quote:
The 1.3kg MSI Wind12 U230 is certainly light and compact, with its 12.1in screen and tasty 1,366×768 resolution, but unlike most "netbooks", this one sports an AMD 1.6GHz Athlon Neo X2 dual-core processor and an ATI Radeon HD 3200 integrated graphics chipset .

The little box of tricks comes with a rather bog-standard 1GB RAM, but according to the product page that-was-and-now-is-not, folk can choose to bump that up to 4GB, for a price, of course. The same goes for the hard drive, which comes at a standard 160GB, or a more expensive 320GB.
SOURCE

Much rather have this than my ASUS Eee PC 1000HE netbook (though, the battery life is better).

15W TDP isn't that bad for a 65nm chip

spec sounds real good for netbook, and at that kind of resolution, would look good even at lowest anyways, can probably run a few decent games. sounds like win

I have it on my Compaq 615, and although my CPU is slightly better and I have twice the RAM I'm going to agree, a bit older games run very decently indeed at 1366x768.

CS:S runs at some 50fps on high/trilinear, Doom 3 on medium details (I prefer no shadows for truly playable experience), UT 2004 is very playable at very high detail but I'd rather run it on medium, you can't see the extra detail in the heat of the battle anyway. More information about the HD 3200 (running on regular, a bit more powerful laptop hardware tho) can be found here

I'm just concerned that the relatively small 12 screen will be a PITA to look at, pixel density getting rather intense and all..

This is not a netbook, this is a laptop... The athlon neo is a good processor but it really can't match the atom in this case for ultramobile and ultra low power consumption.

I predict a 12inch+ screen and a 4 hour maximum battery life, with a price tag at around 500 dollars or more.

I love my MSi Wind.
I got my U100 for $280 and I've been slowly upgrading it. I've added a 9 Cell battery and a 1GB stick of 4-4-4-12 ram. When this thing is overclocked to 2GHz its a screamer (in netbook terms).

i agree. the meaning of the word 'netbook' is being pushed, bent, and disfigured far too much.
