Yep, like when the 939 kicked Intel's butt and Intel responded with CPUs that have AMD Inside. Had AMD not traded their tech with Intel so Intel could make a "true 32/64" bit CPU one can only wonder where Intel would be today. As after the trade, about a year, Intel trumped AMD with a 12 OPS cycle where as AMD's 939 had 9 OPS over the Intel's then current 6 OPS.

It's all good in the long run though as it promotes more competition and we all win there

I highly doubt that microshaft will be on top forever. Either way it's impossible to know atm

I am aware of that, I just cited some examples of what they do. I did say that IBM has their fingers in many pies, and many electronics devices have IBM to thank for getting them on the market.

Intel will not be on top forever. At some point, AMD will overtake.

But you guys make get all gitty thinking about IBM. I'm in college for ECE and thinking of IBM as my employer just makes me smile. Yes, they got their fingers in MANY pies. If it wasn't for those fingers, many, many, many devices would either be outragously expensive or not exist.

Was it merciful to go the illegal route and engage in anti-trust actions?

The only reason AMD is alive is because

a) there are anti-trust laws that prevent the illegal arm-twisting that Intel likes to do

b) They're resilient and make a damn good product with a fraction of Intel's R&D.

Merciful? They're not even merciful to their own employees.

oh and IBM is a bigger company than intel by the way
Conroe was not a kick to AMD while AMD was down. before Conroe, AMD was slaughtering Intel with the K8 Athlons.
