Perhaps fearing a loss of revenue, NVIDIA is working on its drivers to ensure that its GeForce GPUs don’t work on platforms that use Hydra.
Ahh, Nvidia, so predictable. Always looking out for the customer, right.

If Nvidia cards won't work on the Hydra platform, then that will just mean more sales for ATI depending on how well Hydra scales.

I agree with NVIDIA. SLI is a NVIDIA's "technology" and should be used for/with NVIDIA's products.

although HYDRA is a really cool idea, but I'm not surprised it didn't go through.

First nVidia blocks physx on their cards when ATI cards are present, and now they are blocking Hydra?

How disappointing, I think Lucid should release their chips anyway, surely something ATI could take advantages of, right?

Lucid Hydra would only end up hurting Nvidia if you think about. Intel and AMD will still sell their chipsets and motherboards no matter what. Nvidia has no motherboard or chipsets to sell if Lucid Hydra were to be big. Nvidia is playing hardball so they can stay relevant in the future market. Perhaps that is why they are coming out with so much proprietary technology to hopefully put a stranglehold on the market.

Edit/Apology: It seems in my rush to get this article out nice and early for all of our readers, I made a beginners mistake (remember I've only been at this for a couple of weeks) and missed out a few important steps in the process.

I would like to officially apologize to SemiAccurate, my initial source for the article, and NVIDIA and MSI for my misinformed statements which cast them in a bad light. My sincerest apologies guys, I hope I haven't offended you - Alex Myers
So don't bash on nvidia just yet.

Their job isn't to lookout for the customer, it's to lookout for their share holders. It sucks, and it's ugly but that's good old capitalism at it's worst.
