I saw the apology comment, but even if this was true who gives a ****. I think it would be cool just crossfiring a 5870 and a 4890 or my 4670.

This is pretty much the same news that was out a few days ago.

I decided months ago to buy ATi for my next card(s) due to the way nvidia has been doing business, but if they prevent something like Hydra from happening, I'll never touch a product of theirs again. They would actually be purposely lower framerates for the entire gaming industry, including people using nvidia cards.

Should be illegal.

You'd be surprised how much money Nvidia would get if they allowed their GPU's to work with ATI cards. PhysX would be adopted more by developers.

No company looks out for their customers. They look out for themselves. Sure companies may say pretty words in front of a crowd but yeah they will always go for what is best for the company.

However there are companies that reward their customer very well by supporting the product they sell. Good product support is a must.

So what will happen when Nvidia starts thinking about making CPUs? Will AMD and Intel allow it? I don't think so. Not without a fight.

I have to say that it's sad how no one gets along lately though. Nvidia suing Intel, Intel suing AMD. AMD bad mouthing Nvidia all the time. Even hardware reviewers may be picking sides these days.

Thanks to ATI PhysX is growing very slowly. ATI just doesn't want to support it. And developers don't just want to pick sides either.

ATI can't support it. They weren't offered by Nvidia to support it.

They want GPU Havok to replace PhysX, and every GPU could run GPU Havok.

AMD has no say in Nvidia making CPU's. (They do not own x86)
Only Intel does and so far they've said no. (Hence Nvidia's movement towards GPGPU stuff)

Thanks to Nvidia, game physics are growing slower because they want companies such as AMD to adhere to their own proprietary standard instead of an open standard (OpenCL.), despite the fact that no one loses with an open standard.

What is wrong with an open standard? Absolutely nothing.

The power behind this announcement is easy to see - now that Havok can run its APIs easily on either a CPU or GPU, the ability to accelerate physics in a way we had hoped would come about with technology like AGEIA PhysX is much more attractive. While currently today PhysX only runs on NVIDIA GPUs, OpenCL products will run on AMD and NVIDIA GPUs as well as Intel and AMD processors enabling heterogeneous computing algorithms across both product lines. This will also make it much likely that developers will take the additional time to program for such accelerated physics as the install base will have essentially doubled.

Wow.

I wonder if we all realize what this technology could have potentially been!

This is EXACTLY The sort of thing that Intel would do.
Its true. Thats why I didnt like them over the years. Those who have been into PCs for a long time will attest to the similarity of underhanded tactic.
Still dont like their BUSINESS ethics. For which, I would default to AMD.
That being said - I cant wait to finally own a C2D (great chips! ).

This would be soo soo awsome.

Imagine support for "legacy" cards.
Where the guy with 5 PCI slots, could use 5 FX5200's to get himself running Call of Duty..

sigh.

Good on Nvidia if the block this. They need to watch their bottom line more than ever since Intel isn't licensing new chipsets.

I don't like it but good on them.
