Default Need some new cans, possibly an amp

So I'm not getting the responses I want on HF (surprisingly), so I thought I'd post here.

- My budget is around $400 for the headphones or heaphones w/ amp.
- The amp can be a portable or desktop style, doesn't matter.
- My source is my computer with a XtremeMusic (I'd like to upgrade to an external DAC in the future).
- Bonus points will be given if the amp has a DAC built in.
- The music I listen to is about 80% hard rock/screamo, 10% electronic/techno, and 10% ambient stuff (Aphex Twin).
- They need to be circumaural.
- Open? Closed? I have no preference.

Meh, I'm not saying they're a bad set of headphones, but I would like something better within my budget.

Ohhhhh.
Sennheiser HD600
or
AKG K701

AKG has better highs, Senns have better lows. You decide.

EDIT: And get a CMoy amp, don't judge it by looks or the fact that it fits in an altoids tin, it CAN drive those headphones well. You'll need to grab a power adapter from somewhere to power the amp- contact the webmaster of that site.

I recommend the Denon D2000's and a Zero amp. I would link the amp but I can't find it right now, sorry. It is a good DAC/Amp combo though. The headphones I have and love, and there right in you budget.

Edit: Found it!
Both together are right at $400.

hmm... thats a hard one. Maybe some higher end grados? Might not do so well for the electronic stuff but should be good for hard rock/screamo from what I've read. SR225i, SR325is, and RS2i are in your price range. You might be able to find used RS1, but they would be close to $400.

IMO you should look for used ones. You can get a lot more for your money. That's what I'll be doing next time.

Read some reviews on them, pick up some used and an amp.

Yea, head-fi does move slower than here

Ok, I think I've narrowed my choice down to DT770 Pro's, but I'm still stuck on what amp will properly drive them.

Also, it took me forever to figure out where my thread went as it was move to the Hi-Fi section

Really? It seems you could find better options for $400.

I've read the 250 ohm edition is better if you don't need tons of bass.

Well, I can't go too extreme with the headphones because I need an amp as well. Generally, the more expensive the headphones, the more it needs an amp.
