"Pre Out" Connection For Sub?? - Overclock.net

Ive got this connection on my amplifier and was wondering if that can be used to connect a subwoofer to my amp. I know that it would have to be a powered amp but ive seen some subwoofers with a high level in and out connections and not with RCA connections like on the back of my amp. Would those kinds of subs still work??

you can use that sub with your amp by connecting the sub inbetween your amp and speakers. You'll need another pair of speaker cables.

You can either run parallel or series

Oh ok so it is possible like that. Now what if the sub did not have those high level in and out and just a RCA connection. Could i just use an RCA cable and connect the sub to the amp through the pre out connection and it would work like normal??

Yes, if you sub had stereo low level (RCA) inputs then you could use your Pre-outs

It will not sound as good but yes it will work. Subwoofers have built in highpass and lowpass protection, but sending a 20hz-20khz signal isnt the greatest.

You probally wont hear a difference except for movies, even then probally not since the sub you will get wont be a 30hz and under one most likely.

I've never seen a sub without a low pass crossover. The LFE or Sub output on a receiver just feeds the sub the dedicated .1 channel from some material or depending on the settings filters the highs out, effectively a second crossover. The two crossovers are redundant and you only need one.

My two subs are currently connected to the front left/right pre-outputs on my receiver instead of the sub output. I'm using the sub's crossover instead of my receivers, but I get stereo bass now, and my subs don't see any high frequencies.
