I'm looking for an inexpensive mobile player to pair with some Grado sr60i headphones. I'd prefer it to support FLAC and have about 20-40GB. Something around $150-200. I also like it to be able to convert stereo to 5 channels

Getting that much space and FLAC is going to be tough. However, if you are willing to compromise, a 16GB D2+ with a 16GB SD card will give you the best audio quality in that range.

Makes sense. But still the player needs to have a big enough amp for the Grados

The D2+ can pump out 74mw total, which adds up to be 37mw per channel. It should suffice for those headphones.

In comparison, the beefiest iPod can only push 60mw.
