HT Omega Claro Plus+ DAC. Get a seperate DAC?
I am unsure if buying a DAC would be a worthwhile upgrade over my sound card's DAC, AK4396VF. Does anyone have any idea? I've been thinking about getting a combo AMP/DAC but I don't know if its really necessary. I've been checking out this EF2 amp and this Zero amp.
Anyone have some thoughts?

We need to know if you are using speakers or headphones, and any other equipment attached to them. BUT...
The EF2 uses an integrated USB Receiver + DAC chip. Its not going to sound better. The Zero uses a DAC chip of similar quality, and with a similar output stage. It won't sound better. The following chips will sound better: CS4397, CS4398, PCM1792, PCM1794, PCM1704, TDA1541A, ES9008, ES9018, WM8741, WM8742, AD1955.

Hm I see, thanks for the post. Where did you get all of that information from?
I thought it would be pretty obvious that I'll be using headphones as I linked to a couple of headphone amps, but anyway yeah. Senn HD580s. Basically I was thinking HT Omega-->AMP/DAC-->cans.

It's just stuff I remember from reading data sheets. Look at the data sheet for the DAC inside any device you're wanting to buy, and compare it with the DAC in your HTO. Also, consider the new device's the power supply, output stage, and headphone amp design.
