I recentley came across a thread on AVForums, the thread creator suggests using a Minidisk recorder's internal DAC for PC audio. Some may have heard of this but it's new to me and I'm sure there are many others who haven't heard of this method.
You connect the PC to the Minidisk recorder via optical or coax and connect the line out of the Minidisk to your amp, you then choose the correct input and hit "record" on the MD player while no disk is in the player. I happened to have and oldish MD recorder in the wardrobe and decided to give it a whirl and I am very happy with the sound, it's many times better than the analogue output of my X-Fi and the 'phone socket on the MDR even drives my HD600 really well. A very good sound upgrade for cheap/free
