Hi OCN
I am trying to find a digital decoder so i can have active speakers in a surround sound setup but haven't been able to find any, if you know of any good ones that would be great. for everyone who doesnt know what one is it is like a box with a volume control and like 5.1 analog/digital inputs and outputs as volume controlled 5.1 analog.

if this will be used with a sound card you can just use the different outputs... however a much, much easier way to do this would be to purchase a receiver and standard speakers. You'll likely save money and achieve better sound quality.

The only stand alone 5.1 decoder's I know of are AVR Pre-amps and they all seem to cost £1000+ ($1800+)

Creative makes a standalone decoder.
I think it's a discontinued item though. If you could find one on ebay that would be dope.

It is possible to find a multichannel DAC, but that will give you line level outputs without any volume control. I still stand by my original assessment that you should get passive speakers.
