Lightbulb DIY speakers I need to get started!

Hello OCN! Here is my situation. I have a very limited budget and I would like to build a cabinet loudspeaker, but I don't know where to begin. All I know at this point is that I need a woofer, midrange, and a tweeter (and of course, the wood supplies for the cabinet that will house all of it) . I also gather I will need a crossover and other miscellaneous speaker parts. Again, I have an extremely limited budget and I would like this speaker to sound as good as possible. Please recommend cheap but good quality brands, speakers etc. and throw in tips and hints from your experience!

Thanks

If this is your first build, a nice kit would work best for you. You do not always need a woofer, midrange, and tweeter, as you can go 2way, or fullrange.

Please give more on buget, and the type of speaker. Bookshelf etc.

Well, my budget is around $75-$90 and as far as type... I don't know actually know! Larger than a bookshelf speaker. A little more guidance is perhaps required.

I don't think you'll be able to do it with that budget, at least not for a great set of speakers. I looked into what it would cost to build a pair of single driver speakers several months ago and the cost was 3-4x as much. Granted the enclosure was a bit more complicated than your typical 'box' but it was still a 'mini' monitor and I only had 1 pair of drivers, not 2 or the crossover parts to worry about.

GR Research has some great sounding kits, all over your budget, but worth saving for. If you want something cheaper I believe both Parts Express and Madisound have cheaper kits. Madisound may still have their 'recession' buster kits with vafia drivers.

edit: unfortunately only the 'reference' recession buster kit is still in stock and @ $399 quite a bit out of your price range, and that doesn't include the price of cabinets.

This guy's projects get a lot of recommendations on DIY sites.

For your budget, the ZBM4 might be a good choice, although it is stretching your budget considering you need an amp too.

Their not bad, The midrange and high-end are nice and smooth.
The bass when first setup is nonexsitant, after burn-in it gets allot better. These speakers require a sub for any type of music, I cross mine over at 100hz.

But you might think these are amazing im comparing these to my B&W 703, so i might be a little harsh on them; For the price its amazing quality.
