Alright since there is not many DIY threads here, ill post the building of my new subwoofer. I will give step by step, and also give the parts I used. If anyone needs help building a subwoofer, I am glad to help, recommend, and show you the planning and build processes.
This thread is to start things like this up on the forum, as its gives great info for people starting in DIY builds. For this I will be building a IXL 18 2.2 subwoofer. Parts: 1 IXL 18 2.2 (265cdn) 1 4x8 3/4 mdf sheet (33cdn) Gorilla wood glue (5cdn) 1 1/2 inch screws (7cdn) Extra wood bracing is from extra mdf. 1 6inch pipe (3cdn) 1 bash 500watt plate amp (seperate from box) Silicon sealent which I already have. Total cost would come to around 600$, and taxes etc after that. The box specs are as follows: 23H x 23W x 37D 9.5 ft^3 or 270liters ( Bracing and woofer will take from this, and will be calculated after build. Vent 6in and 15 deep, 20hz tune. (Will change with final box volume calc) To show you how it will be cut from the mdf, here is a pic. (Not much wood spared, and it is a big box for just one sheet. Bracing would need a second sheet, but I already have the wood for that. ![]() ![]() Thanks for reading. Will update as subwoofer comes in, and I start purchasing wood and building it. Pics included.

LOL, 18" sub tuned to 20hz @ 500W. This box is going to be disgusting. I'll be watching this one.

Disgusting as in big ?.... yes, but it is going to be painted, but I have not chosen what to go with. Either matte black, or I might piano finish it, still do not know.

Damn i wish i had room for a box that big. That thing should move some air and rattle some walls. This for music or movies?

My build is almost the same as yours. Except I am useing mdf. Also my bracing will be different, and my port will be flared. Other things as well, but meh. Because of placement though, I need to side port it, as it needs to be placed on the wall. Ill be getting the camera out, although some of the build is already done.

Alright heres some pictures of what there is so far.
- Subwoofer arrived - The box wood was cut - Glued and screwed except for top Still needs a lot of work, bracing, port, and lots of tweaks etc. The pure size of the driver, is something pictures does no justice to. I thought it was going to be big, but its huge. My old 10inch is only the size of the dust cap, and I thought it was big.

You didn't happen to measure how far it has to move to bottom out, did you? I, uh, forgot
