Default Need a new headset

Im looking to buy a new headset. Right now I have these crappy Logitech ones I just bought on impulse at Microcenter. Im looking to spend under $200 but it needs to have an attached mic and good quality audio. I really have no idea whats good and whats not, they would be used mostly for gaming and listening to music/movies.

Are you sure it needs an attached mic as buying a clip-on mic / desktop mic frees you up so much more in terms of options it isn't funny.

Music tastes?

I guess it could be clip on, attached just makes it easier. I definitely don't like the desktop ones as I value my desk space greatly

As far as music tastes go, I'm mostly into classic rock and stuff like that.

Well, I would go Grado Sr225i for your music type, however Grado isn't so good for movies and gaming tbh because of the small soundstage so you're in a pickle.

I will have to say that the Audio Technica AD700 is probably the balance between having a laid back sound signature as well as having it forward enough for the types of music you listed. It's a blend of an HD595 and a Grado SR225, in my opinion. However, the sound stage is on the big side which makes the AD700 a good gaming headphone so you should definitely look into that.

The HD 555's are extremely nice and well balanced. Perfect for games and extremely well suited for rock/classical/jazz, instrumental. You could even bump the bass on your equalizer and it would still be fine for techno, rap, drum and bass.

I have tried all of the Razer Circumaural headsets and they also sounded decent, but not as good as buying a nice set of cans seperate. As far as clip on mics go I heard the Zalman clip-on was good but I haven't tried it out.

Edit: Your mobo has nice onboard sound, but have you thought about buying a nice sound card? There's still a lot of nice headphones out there sub 100$

I just got my HD555 today and I'm in love. With a Zalman clip-on and its a great setup.

you should get a soundcard, perhaps like the ASUS Xonar DX

and then get the Audio Technica A700 or AD700. One is closed back, the second is open back.

and then get the zalman clip-on mic

That's what I would recommend anyways

Audio Technica AD700 $90
zalman clip on mic $15
Xonar DX $80
Total: $185 w/ free shipping through Amazon

You can get the Xonar DX at the 'egg open box for $57. Open box.

Don't fear the open box, my GPU and sound card were both open box and worked fine.
