I'm not sure if this is really considered hi-fi but close enough I guess.
First, some background. Here's my current system: ![]() Recently I picked up a 5.1 set at a yard sale... ![]() While cleaning these, I noticed that I could take the front cover... thing off. It turns out the front left and right have what seems to be 2 full range drivers and a tweeter, but the center, and surround speakers only seem to have a single mid range driver. But then I had a thought, shouldn't my SL micro's perform better than the surrounds I just bought? So i look at the specs PDF on infinity's site: Quote:
My question is, would it be a smart idea to try to hook up the SL Micro's to the new amp? Or would I blow it out/not get as good sound?

from what I have read, you should mix speakers with different ohms than the amp

A couple quick hints. First, you can never judge quality from a spec sheet and everyone's ears are different. Also, equipment is synergistic meaning that some pieces go together better
. Just to give you 1 quick example, let's say that you had an overly bright amplifier that created a somewhat harsh sound. Having a speaker that has somewhat rolled off highs would actually sound better than a perfectly flat frequency responsed speaker. Lastly, you should have no problem using your old speakers as the surrounds with the new ones. Try it out and see what you think. Usually, it pays to keep the speakers from the same speaker line with the same tweeter in order to produce a similar sound as sound pans around you during movies.Edit: Btw, you'll also want to match the sound level if the sensitivity is far off from the others. Your receiver should have output adjustments.

you won't know if your old speakers are better until you hook them up to compare. Just be careful about the volume since the speakers are lower and will present a harder load to your amp.

I heard that you shouldn't mix speakers with different impedance ratings - but I'm not really a speaker guy so you should probably verify that.

Eh, the difference between 6 ohms and 8 ohms is no big deal. They should work fine. If you were running a 2 ohms load then that would definitely be a problem.
