My friend is looking for some new headphones after his SK pros died. He has listed to my Grado SR125 and liked them just wanted some more base. I dont have any other headphones to compare them to so i was looking for some more input. His budget it about 200 or less.

He will be using these mostly for rock as his nice pair and his SK pros(turns out he might get an RMA on them) for when he just wants to blast music.

I personally think he would enjoy closed cans more. In fact, for someone who's just starting on the path to audio spending, I would recommend he look at a stock JVC HA-RX900 for starters. However, if he really wants to go straight to the answer and not spend $55 on starter cans, then I would recommend he look into the Shure SRH840 that everyone's been raving about on Head-Fi. However, it might be FOTM and I've not tried it so I can't give you personal experience on it. There are a lot of crazy people in audio and as much as I try to be objective about it, personal preference usually is the reason for getting or not getting a certain headphone. I wish your friend luck on this audio journey. Don't let him get too carried away.
