just an FYI, INSANE DEAL from AV123 if you're interested...
http://www.av123.com//index.php?page...mart&Itemid=37 ELT5.0 system for $699 shipped PM me if you're interested I may be able to dig up a 10% discount coupon code you could use the beautiful towers as your rears, and the monitors as surrounds, + your sub and fronts and you'd have a full 7.1 system. as for recievers... I'd suggest looking into Onkyo, Marantz, Denon, Sony, Yamaha, NAD, Rotel about 50-70wpc should do you fine, I'd suggest getting a full 7 channel reciever to future proof yourself. And don't be afraid of the used market, lots of scores in there, check your local craigslist, and kijiji. As well as ebay, and audiogon.

Thanks for the suggestions

Well it's not completely against the wall...the seats there are recliners, so its actually about a foot away. It helps a bit, but not much obviously... The doorway is just an opening. The Ceiling is 8 ft high, and it's a drop ceiling with about a foot between the panels and the wood above. The room is just about 14 ft long and 10ft wide. Quote:

. A spearate amp for each channel....perfect imaging with no crosstalk... ![]() Anyway, they are 3-way floorstanding speakers, that go from about 150Hz to 20kHz, configured as low/mid, mid/high, high. The low/mid cones are about 8" wide, and I installed internal HPFs to limit the bass so they don't "burn" - the sub is ridiculous anyway, it even shakes the lamps all the way in the kitchen when turned up. They are some pretty old Sonys, from back when Sony was good enough to actually earn their name. What do you think, by the way, if I temporarily just used some of those stereo-in-a-box systems off of craigslist for like $50 a pop for the center and rear, at least until 6 months from now when I can get some real speakers for them? Crap.....I want to buy those speakers even without an amp to power them yet haha. Aw man, let me think about this..... Quote:

![]() You may could look into some Polk Audio speakers for the Center and Rear if you prefer new. Or for cheaper, Sony or Pioneer makes some cheaper ones. Just some examples: Polk Audio Monitor 30, $99.99 for the pair, those could make decent rears. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882290094 Polk Audio CS1 Center, $99.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882290021 And you surely can find some nice ones cheaper on amazon or ebay. I recommend that you should choose ones with also the highest sensitivity rating.

Not a huge deal, but I feel that I must share my experience. Quality Control has been seriously lacking at Denon lately. I had a Denon AVR-2307ci about 18 months ago, maybe 2 years tops. The receiver had more issues then anything I've ever owned electrical. After 3 hours....3 HOURS it stopped turning on and gave me this error that I had to reset the decoder. I did, problem changed. Now it would turn on, and give me an error code, no sound.
After calling for Technical Support, they agreed that it must be fixed and said I have to ship it to their authorized repair place. This is dealing with D&M Holdings. I shipped the item out, after a couple of weeks without my receiver I called the repair facility stating I wanted to have an ETA for my receiver. They said it would take them 3 months to get the part in that I required. 3 MONTHS!!!! Needless to say I replaced it with what I could afford. I found a hell of a deal on an Emotiva LMC-1 Preamp and LPA-1 Amp. I've never had a moments trouble with it and I purchased both items used. Denon and Marantz simply aren't the quality that they used to be. D&M Holdings purchased their names and release products under them that are hardly worth the purchase price. I don't mean anything against the people who have suggested them, this has only been my own experience. But I think we can agree that 3 months to wait for a warranty repair is crazy. I wish you luck and can't wait for pictures when all is said and done. EDIT: Forgot to mention that I owned the receiver for 7 months, was in the shop 6 of them.

![]() I must say, I am quite happy with my Pioneer Elite receiver, I've had it for almost two years now, and never had any issues except when the remote kept freezing... which was due to the original set of batteries were pretty low. They sure lasted a heck of a long time though. Only feature it lacks is audio through HDMI, but something I am not worried about. ![]() Anyway, hope your search goes well, Manyak!

I got the ONKYO 7.2-Channel Home Theater Receiver HT-RC160 from newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-146-_-Product
and let me tell you, it's amazing for the price. Coupled with nice speakers, I'm sure you'll be blown away by how much you've spent on the receiver. Check it out, I use it for my PS3, DVR, and PC. Just ordered some ATH A700s to plug into the receiver. Good luck on your choice!

Speakers from a HTIB or so cheapies should be fine. To be honest, your center channel is 1 of the more important parts of a surround setup. That is where 70% of the sound is produced. I recommend a Denon receiver, but you do not really get much from the low end.
Other than that I would recommend Pioneer, then Onkyo is pretty good too.. If possible, pick up a receiver that has 3 or more HDMI ports. Otherwise pick up a HDMI switcher box. Even receivers made 5-6 years ago had SPDIF connectons.

Size of the room is excellent but drop ceilings are never good for a listening room. I can't give you the technical reason (because noone explained it right to me). But you cannot avoid it I suppose. Quote:

In that case just buy the receiver and power your old sony's in stereo. Why spend money on something you don't want anyways. I am going to link you to two sites. This first one is Home Theater Direct They are based out of texas and since all the cabinets are made in china keep the costs down. I have experience with there tech support people and build quality and I love these guys. Browse through their Level 2 center channels and consider buying 3 of them for L/R/C. If you want a few cheap and VERY GOOD speaker these surprised ME! http://www.brandsplace.com/0341-cerve5m.html Cerwin-Vega's havent been known for there audiophile quality but these little bastards are excellent. You could do 3 pair and double up the center or get the matching center http://www.brandsplace.com/0341-cerve5c.html Just a thought. I am not sure what your final budget looks like so there are some HQ Low cost solutions. Yeah, I use almost no analog inputs on my denon. Coax 96K from my PC, Coax Dig from the cablebox, HDMI from the Blue Ray. Have a 3.5mm to RCA for my archos should my pc be off for whatever reason.
