Default Cablevision (Optimum) & STB HTPC Setup

Anyone using an HTPC in conjunction with Cablevision's Optimum Cable Service? I'm in the lower NY area and of course they own the area in terms of service. Is the service compatible with PVR's? It is a digital cable provider (cable box with a card sticking out).

I've been looking to toy around with an HTPC set up and hopefully use it as a PVR, and music/movie streaming machine.

I'm a REAL newb when it comes to HTPC's and I'm fairly excited about delving into that area of PC tinkering. I'm okay when it comes to pricing out components and such, i'm just really unsure about the physical setup (between the cable box to pc to tv and such).

I've looked up guides elsewhere on the net but they're pretty outdated (circa 2002).

To answer most of your questions: (1) a fridge cannot cool a PC (2) 64-bit OS for over 3.4GB (3) If a PCIe card fits, it should work (4) Resolution, not screen size (5) If you have a question, it is not news (6) Report, not respond to Spam (7) Single-Rail/Non-Modular PSUs are not always better than Multi-Rail/Modular (8) Sequential does not matter as much as random for OS drives

you should be able to without a prob.

simply route the output of your stb to the input of your tuner card.

for example, i have the svideo output of my stb connected to the vieo input (also svideo) of my tv tuner card. then you simply run the tuner setup in mce or whatever software you are using. you will need a remote and ir pill capable of changing the stb channels though since when you command the pc to change the channel, it needs to be able to send the ir commands to the cable box (stb)

I live in the cablevision area and am looking to possibly build an HTPC - if I could pick your brain about your experience please let me know. This is the only thread I can find on it.

thanks in advance.
